Tenth of an Ounce Rope Bag

In the summertime, supermarkets sell berries and other small fruits in baskets with these elasticized netting covers. I used one to make a bag for my rope that weighs under 3 grams (0.1 oz.).

To Make: Snip the rubber band that comes on the net, but do not take it out of the loops. Lay two pieces of TripTease(r) or other light cord end to end with the rubber band, and roll both into a short piece of scotch tape, connecting them together. Pull the rubber band out, threading the cord through all those little loops around the net at the same time.

Tape the two ends of one of the cords end to end (creating a temporary loop) so you can slide it halfway around so that the knots will be opposite each other. When finished, you will be able to just pull on the two knots to close the bag, securing with a simple overhand knot.

Putting the rope into the bag is simply a matter of stuffing it in. It doesn't tangle, and when you want to use it, it feeds right out through the hole.

When you're ready to hang your bear bag, the netting becomes a holder for a rock to weight the rope so you can throw it over a branch.

Total weight with 50' of parachute cord: 3 oz.
